The Binding of CO2 to Human Deoxyhemoglobin: An X-Ray Study Using Low-Salt Crystalsfor most (about 80%) of the oxygen-linked binding of CO. [5, 9, 10]. However, since the presence of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate reduces the amount of CO. bound to deoxyhemoglobin [5, 9, 10], the fraction of carbamate groups associated with the NH.-termini of the a chains is probably increased in vivo.
