Photochemical Reactions,ent method of investigating the kinetics of free-radical reactions at room temperature or low temperatures. It would be necessary to use much higher temperatures to generate free radicals by thermal methods.

Catalysed Reactions,considerable resources have been devoted to the discovery of new and better catalysts. Despite this the mechanisms of many catalysed reactions are not well understood, and many of the catalysts used in chemical industry were discovered by trial and error rather than by fundamental research.

Introduction,onstant, it is possible to predict the direction in which a chemical change will take place. Thermodynamics cannot, however, give any information about the rate at which a change takes place or the mechanism by which the reactants are converted to products.

Fast Reactions,tivation energy, but if the reactants are present in low concentrations the rate of the reaction will be small. Similarly in a unimolecular reaction the rate of decomposition may be very fast, but if deactivation is effective the rate of conversion to product is small.
