,Mitsui Bank under the Control of the Mitsui Family, 1876–1929,Today’s major commercial banks were originally the in-house banks of zaibatsu and were responsible for the banking affairs of all zaibatsu-affiliated enterprises in prewar Japan. Mitsui Bank was the largest of these banks and the nucleus of the diverse businesses owned by the Mitsui family.
