M. Paoli,W. T. Trotter Jr,J. W. Walker hitting-set iff n is a leaf marked ? is true since we can replace conflict generation beforehand by online conflict generation using . by proposition 3.21 and lemma 3.23. Thus the top-down algorithm 3.27 is equivalent to the hitting-set algorithm 3.21. □

We sketch a first algorithm which is based on bottom-up evaluation of extended logic programs and discuss in detail a second one which makes use of a top-down proof procedure.
