The paper concludes with some suggestions for future strategies for operational rainfall monitoring with satellite support, plus a summary of actions required if satellites are to contribute usefully to agrometeorological and agroclimatological programmes in the near future.

The importance of exogenous (i.e. not remotely sensed data) is inhanced. It is also discussed how to store and process these data in a remote sensing environment, to make them compatible with digital images.
