Some Variational Problems in Semi-Riemannian GeometryIn this contribution we are concerned with global properties of geodesics on semi-Riemannian manifolds obtained by studying the variational properties of the action functional. Applications to physically meaningful spacetimes in General Relativity will be presented.

Mathematical Properties of Cosmological Models with Accelerated Expansioncal and physical issues are explored. Theorems which have been proved for solutions with positive cosmological constant or nonlinear scalar fields are reviewed. Some remarks are made on more exotic models such as the Chaplygin gas, tachyons and k-essence.
