Radiological Staging and History of Endorectal Sonography,As new imaging techniques became available they were used to stage rectal cancer. External ultrasound scanners were particularly unsatisfactory, since the rectum is hidden within the bony pelvis and there is in any case limited resolution of gut wall because of the low frequencies used.
