Determination of Contrails from Satellite Data and Observational Results,nd the Alps. Preliminary results are reported for 99 further cases. A pattern recognition method is described to identify contrails and the related cloud cover automatically. Laser observations reflect contrail cross-sections which are several km in width and about 700 m thick. The optical thickness reaches values up to 1.

If air traffic would cause a 10 percent increase in water vapour there this would be equi-valent to up to 0.2 Wm. radiation budget change depending on surface temperature.
