Report on the SessionI of this Symposium and during a Workshop held in Bern, Switzerland (27 – 30 April 1987). This report attempts to summarize some of the main results from these discussions and to indentify important needs for future research.

Les Climats de Pollution en Europe: Caracterisation et Classificationlutants, precursors and radical species in the atmosphere, to the spatial and temporal variability of the data, and to the various kinds of indicators of pollution levels needed by the plant physiologists. Results of the 1984 EMEP campaign are presented. Some guidelines for future measurements and for the edition of the results are suggested.
