Large-Eddy Simulation of Buoyant Plane Plumes,In the present study a turbulent plane plume is examined by means of numerical simulations. Results are compared with experiments and results from integral models based on an entrainment assumption. The objective of this research is to determine whether a Large-Eddy Simulation can be applied in this case and what subgrid scale model performs best.

Extended Self Similarity and Convective Turbulence,We study the scaling behaviour of the correlation functions of the temperature and velocity fields in a Rayleigh-Benard cell at moderately high Rayleigh number. We use extended self-similarity techniques to analyze our numerical data. We find clean evidence for Bolgiano scaling.

Boundary Layer Properties in Turbulent Thermal Convection,We describe an experiment where we have measured the general features of the thermal boundary layer of turbulent thermal convection in a fluid layer heated from below. The influence of the boundary layer on the heat transport properties and on the statistics of temperature fluctuations in the bulk is also discussed.

A Physical Model for Merging in , Decaying Turbulence,Some aspects of the Vortex Method simulation of . decaying turbulence are examined. The merging rule is modified to account for the production of more than one vortex and the merging criterion is revised to include the effect of the strain field generated by all the other vortices.
