Opting Out Of Technology: A Study of Girls’ GCSE Choices over the past few years by the declining proportion of women amongst our students. In 1979, 20% of the students entering Computer Science and related single-subject degree schemes at Leeds were women, but since then the proportion has tended to decrease, reaching just 9% in 1988.

In this study I have analysed the replies to a questionnaire which was distributed to A Level maths students in order to assess their past experiences of computing and the impact on future career aspirations. The replies to the questionnaires were analysed to study gender differences.
