Water Supply,d through reservoir release. However, such developments are rare. Most navigation projects require relatively small flows, in the order of a few hundred cusec. Moreover, nearly all of this represents non-consumptive use.

Hydraulics,phasis has been placed on practical aspects (such as determining the diameter of a conduit, the width of a spillway, or the dimensions of a canal) than on theoretical aspects (such as viscous resistance, boundary layer, or turbulence characteristics).

Hydraulic Structures,ctures such as shiplocks are discussed in Chapter 9: Navigation; hydroelectric plants are discussed in Chapter 7: Water Power; and dikes are discussed in Chapter 6: Flood Control. The operation of the reservoir depends largely on the purpose that the reservoir serves, and is discussed in the chapters on Flood Control, Water Power and Irrigation.
