https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-031-46015-9 had been known before. John Herschel finally published his monumental “General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars” in the . of 1864. An expanded version of this work, J. L. E. Dreyer’s 1888 ., remains to this day the principal deep-sky catalogue for astronomers.

Feng Zhou,Chen Zhang,Jiantao ZhangWhile describing the various objects (speaking into a tape recorder) as I looked at them in the eyepieces, I specifically looked for certain features and mentally ticked these off as I noted them. For example, as I observed a galaxy I would cover its .. The features in the descriptions are given below for each type of object.
