Lothar Bertels modified somewhat by Handlirsch (1926) and as such has influenced Brues, Melander and Carpenter (1954), Weber (1933), Martynov (1938) and Jeannel (1949). More recently, general classifications of the insects have been set out by Beier (1969), Hennig (1953, 1969) and Mackerras (1970).

Reconstructing Smooth Surfaces from a Series of Contour Lines Using a Homotopyesentation. When a straight-line homotopy is used, the resulting surface is a loft surface. A homotopy that corresponds to the cardinal spline surface is also introduced. 3-D surface reconstruction of human auditory ossicles illustrates the capability of the above method.
