Nitro-imidazoles as tumour radiosensitizers are quite different since they have an equal sensitizing action on cycling and non-cycling cells, and on cells at any stage in their cell cycle. Their tumour-specific action relates to the presence of a large fraction of hypoxic cells in tumours, and not in normal tissues.
