Introduction,ne of 1862 he married Elise Koch, a friend of his sisters. Always in poor health, he spent a large part of the years that followed in Italy. His only daughter, Ida, was born there. In 1866, in the first days of the war with Prussia, he again decided to go south. He died on 20 July 1866 in Selasca on Lago Maggiore.

Real Analysis,Riemann’s habilitation paper . (W. 227–265) (.) was completed in 1853, but was published by Dedekind only in 1868. If we consider not just its topic but also its origin, contents, and influence, then we must assign the paper to the foundations of real analysis.
